Greggs opens another branch the city centre - just a short walk from two other stores

The new Greggs store on Market Street has opened its doors, within seconds walk to at least two other branches of the nationwide bakery. It’s taken the unit left vacant by Carphone Warehouse, but is just seconds away from its other two branches in the Arndale Centre opposite.

There are also two more branches within a minute’s walk, on either side of Piccadilly Gardens, another on Mosely Street and another on Cross Street, one on Deansgate, Brazennose Street, another on Piccadilly on the way to the station, another at Victoria Station and another on Oxford Road.

That makes 11 branches within the city’s ring road. The new branch will bring 20 new jobs to the city centre.

The new branch’s manager Tammy Hikin said: “We can’t wait to welcome both Greggs fans and new customers to our brand-new shop. We’ve got an amazing range of tasty bakes, hot drinks, sweet treats and savouries available for takeaway or click and collect.”

Gillian Long, retail operations director for Greggs, said: “Our new shop in Manchester Market Street has brought 20 new jobs to the local area, as well as providing customers with a modern, convenient new place to experience their favourite Greggs food.”

The new branch will be open from 6.30am to 9pm on Monday to Saturday, and from 8.30am to 7pm on Sundays. Founded in 1939 by baker John Gregg in Newcastle, the chain now has more than 2,300 branches around the UK, and employs around 25,000 people, turning out its famous steak bakes and sausage rolls.
