A Greggs diner has vowed to never eat anything from the chain again - after finding a "German cockroach" in her ham and egg sandwich.
Louise was nearly sick when she spotted the insect wedged between the lettuce and a tomato in the sandwich.
The 57-year-old shared a photograph of her discovery and told of her disgust.
Greggs told Louise the foreign object was the fault of their lettuce supplier and offered her a £15 food voucher, but Louise declined the offer as she doesn't want to eat anything from the chain again.
Speaking to Daily Record, Louise said: "I opened it later on to put mayo on and saw the insect under the tomato. I was nearly sick when I saw it.
"I've now learnt that this is a German cockroach. They carry disease so it is quite dangerous. I can't stop thinking about what would have happened if I crunched into that."
Pals picked up the sandwich from the Greggs in Bellshill, North Lanarkshire, and dropped it off to Louise to ensure she was eating, as she is grieving the death of her mother currently.
Louise froze the sandwich so she had evidence, and contacted the company.
But she added: "I think the sandwiches are pre-made in store, so I don't know how they've managed to miss that. I noticed it right away.
"All of that lettuce supply must have been contaminated and they have not issued any recall or warning. It is disgusting.
"That supplier can't only supply the Bellshill Greggs, it must have delivered to other stores as well.
"If customer care knew enough to tell me it had come from the lettuce supplier, then surely there must have been more than the one on my sandwich?
"I want people to know what they are eating and warn them about it. If anyone has been ill after eating a Greggs around that time, then that will be why.
"I will never eat anything from Greggs again."
Greggs says it was an isolated incident and it had no wider issues with their lettuce supplier.
A spokesperson for the company said: “We take all matters of food safety and hygiene seriously and are investigating this incident fully.
"We have been in dialogue with the customer and are keeping them updated whilst our investigation is underway.”
