Greggs has revealed where its next stores will open as it eyes up a UK-wide expansion with the addition of hundreds of new branches.
The Tyneside-born bakery chain has confirmed that it plans to open 150 new shops a year, ultimately hoping to increase its number of stores across the UK to more than 3,000. It comes after the business reported record high sales that topped £1.5bn last year, as customers continue to turn to Greggs for low-cost meals amid the rising cost of living.
Plans were also announced for a new 24-hour Greggs drive-thru, which is set to be trialled at an unconfirmed location later this year. The chain has been extending its opening hours in recent months to sell more hot meals in the evening, with around 500 of its stores now open until at least 8pm and plans for a further 300 to stay open until 9pm this year.

Greggs already has nearly 2,330 shops across the UK, having opened a record 186 new shops last year alone. The sausage roll favourite has confirmed to The Mirror the location of the next eight stores set to open, which includes two in the North East in Newcastle city centre and Spennymoor, County Durham.
Here's the full list of Greggs stores confirmed so far to be opening in 2023:
- Primark Tasty Cafe, Newcastle
- Spennymoor, Durham
- Glasgow Airport
- Edinburgh Castle Street
- Cardiff Park House
- Canary Wharf Station, London
- Shepherd's Bush Station, London
- Gatwick Airport South Terminal
Greggs has also teased that new items are set to land on the menu this year, including a range of flatbreads and a sweet chilli chicken noodle salad box. Other new products, such as different flavours of hot chicken wrap, are also currently being trialled across its Newcastle branches.
The BBQ and sweet chilli wraps have been trialled alongside the likes of loaded goujons with wedges, chicken katsu goujons, and a chicken burger in a ciabatta roll. This year Greggs has already launched a vegan Cajun chicken-free roll and vegan southern fried chicken-free goujons, as well as bringing back its vegetable bake and offering different drinks including Innocent branded items.
