Greggs celebrates Sam Fender St James' Park homecoming with music gigs at Grainger Street shop

A cartoon sign of Sam Fender eating a pasty has appeared on Newcastle city centre's Grainger Street branch as two Geordie icons team up ahead of the singer's homecoming gigs next weekend.

The North Shields singer songwriter is putting on two massive shows at St James' Park on June 9 and 10 which have been sold out for months. And bakery chain Greggs couldn't resist getting in on the action, with its Grainger Street shop set to be transformed to Fenders Unplugged on the days of his gigs.

It's not the first time a connection between the two has arisen, Greggs filled Sam's Brits "After Party Bus" in 2022, and he was seen sporting the Greggs X Primark clogs on tour in the US.

Said to be an immersive dive bar experience, Greggs are aiming to give fans the "ultimate pre-gig experience in true Geordie style" and will have a series of intimate performances from North East talent, some of which have been selected by Sam. Each session will last for 75 minutes, with "classic Greggs combos" being paired with Sam's favourite drink, Newcastle Brown Ale.

Local, homegrown talent so far confirmed for the intimate acoustic sets include hip-hop artist Kay Greyson, Bugman, The Peevie Wonders, Cortney Dixon and Chintzy Stetson. Tickets to the events are free with 240 in total up for grabs and will be on sale from 10am on Monday June 5.

Sam referred to the collaboration on Twitter on Thursday morning, writing: "One week until St James’ Park!! Until then, @GreggsOfficial been cooking up some treats".

Fans posted their excitement at the news on Twitter, with one saying: "Sam Fender and Greggs - these are a few of my favourite things," while another wrote: "Greggs and Sam Fender is a partnerhip I never thought would happen but omg???"
