Greg Taylor admits Celtic ’s Ibrox win was a big one.
But the Parkhead defender insists it will count for nothing if his team don’t back it up with success over St Johnstone on Saturday.
Taylor was amongst the heroes for Ange Postecoglou ’s team as they moved to within touching distance of the title by sinking Rangers in their own backyard.
Celtic’s 2-1 victory has given them a six-point cushion with just half a dozen Premiership games remaining but the left-back says there’s no room to let up.
Callum Davidson’s team head for Glasgow’s east end at the weekend fighting for their top-fight lives and Taylor says his side have to double down on their Govan triumph to really make it count.
He said: “At the end of the day, it is only three points. Of course, it was a big one but it means nothing if we don’t go and continue that form into next week.
“So that’ll be our aim. To go and get three points against St Johnstone.”
Despite their drive and motivation to keep looking ahead, Celtic’s players were able to savour the win at Ibrox.
Postecoglou’s men overcame a nightmare start with the loss of a third-minute opening goal to roar back and win.
Before he limped off late in the contest, Taylor had played a huge part in the defensive effort in the second half which got his team over the line.
It was a triumph that proved Celtic have the character to go with their class and the Scotland ace was thrilled with it.
Taylor said: “We are really happy. It was a fighting performance. We were a wee bit under the cosh for the last half hour or so but the boys dug deep and we managed to get a big three points.
“They started well so we just had to try and get a bit of composure within the game.
“We had experienced boys out there and it was a big moment from Tom (Rogic) to get the equaliser and then we managed to control a good bit of the game after that.
“The gaffer has instilled a really strong mentality within the group.
“We’ve worked tirelessly, we’ve not looked for excuses throughout and we didn’t again on Sunday.
“We went 1-0 down but we just dug deep.”
Cameron Carter-Vickers scored the winning goal after Rogic’s strike and that helped him to a man of the match award.
Taylor joked: “It was brilliant for Carter-Vickers. We even managed to get a smile out of him at the end, which is really rare for big CCV!”
