A pub worker gained more than £19,000 in benefits after he failed to inform his local authority he was working at the venue. Peter McConnachie, 67, of Ling Crescent, Ruddington, appeared at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, May 23, accused of deceiving Rushcliffe Borough Council in order to continue receiving Housing Benefit.
McConnachie pleaded guilty to failing to promptly inform the local authority that from January 21, 2018, he had been employed by Greene King, which would have impacted the benefits he was receiving. He did this between January 29, 2018, and December 13, 2021, leading to him gaining more than £19,000 in Housing Benefit.
Presiding magistrate Mr Kirk said it was agreed the case should be sent to the Nottingham Crown Court for sentencing.

Mitigating, defence solicitor Chris Wall said McConnachie had an "awful lot going on in his life" at the time, adding he had a number of dependents. McConnachie is due to appear for sentencing at Nottingham Crown Court on June 27. He was granted unconditional bail.
