Green Card Requirements Now Include Medical Examination and Immunization Records

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced the expansion of Green Card requirements to include the beneficiary's medical exam and immunizations records with submission.

"We now require certain applicants filing Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, to submit Form I-693, Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record, along with their Form I-485. Otherwise, we will reject the Form I-485," the agency warned.

Previously, USCIS accepted Form I-485 without medical reports — which had to be signed by authorized professionals — and later requested applicants to submit the report. This will no longer be the case, as incomplete applications will now be outright rejected. The agency also previously allowed applicants to correct omission by submitting the documents later but that will no longer be allowed either.

USCIS also made other adjustments to its processes, such as clarifying the requirement for legal admission to Permanent Residency as a condition for naturalization, according to La Opinión.

In that regard, the agency clarified that a naturalization applicant must demonstrate they were legally admitted to the United States for permanent residence under the immigration laws in effect at the time of their admission or adjustment of status.

"USCIS will consider whether a naturalization applicant was lawfully admitted for permanent residence or lawfully adjusted to permanent resident status at the time of their initial admission or adjustment, regardless of whether they were legally admitted for permanent residence at the time of any subsequent reentry into the United States," the agency stated.
