Green Bay Packers star Romeu Doubs does not think there will be a major impact caused by the departure of Aaron Rodgers.
The Packers agreed to a trade with the New York Jets that saw Rodgers leave after 18 years in Wisconsin. The star quarterback was traded to the Jets with the Packers receiving several draft picks, including a conditional second round pick that will turn into a first round pick if Rodgers features in at least 65 percent of offensive snaps in the 2023 season.
Rodgers has been the starting QB for the Packers since 2008, after taking over from Pro Football Hall of Famer Brett Favre. He had been in Green Bay for 15 years, meaning the Packers will have just their third different starting quarterback since 1992.
Jordan Love will be the new starting quarterback for the Packers, having served as back-up to Rodgers since being drafted in 2020. Sean Clifford was picked in last month’s draft to add to the quarterback room with the Packers, and will compete with Love in his rookie season at Lambeau Field.
Doubs has been speaking about working with Love and what is expected to be different for this coming season. The Packers wide receiver, who is about to enter his second season in the NFL, says he doesn’t see a “big difference” between working with Love or Rodgers.
“I think Jordan is a really good quarterback,” Doubs told SpectrumNews1.com . “When you go from Aaron Rodgers to Jordan, Aaron was a really great quarterback, but I believe Jordan can do the same exact thing. So I don’t really see what’s the big difference.”
“I see a progression,” Doubs added. “I see it going up. I don’t see the Packers going down.
“I only focus on our room and our team in this organization. This organisation is historic, and it’s only winning. That’s all. When you hear Green Bay, it’s no losing, it’s only winning.”
Doubs and Love will be busy working during the recent organised team activities (OTAs) in the early stages of the off-season. There are still three months until their Week One opener against NFC rivals the Chicago Bear, but will have pre-season friendly games against the Cincinnati Bengals, the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks in August.
The Packers will be hoping for a significantly improved season compared to what they had in 2022. A regular season record of 8-9 saw them miss out on the playoffs, with Rodgers failing to reach the post-season after winning two consecutive NFL MVP awards.
