Greater Manchester will escape the worst weather in Storm Dudley but WILL be hit by Storm Eunice

Greater Manchester will escape the worst of the 'very strong and disruptive winds' brought by Storm Dudley later this week - but will be hit by Storm Eunice on Friday.

The Met Office has issued two weather warnings - one yellow and one amber - for large parts of northern England and Scotland on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

In some areas, forecasters warn there could be a 'danger to life' as Storm Dudley brings strong gusts.

Though windy weather is predicted for Greater Manchester, it will escape the worst of the gales which are predicted to hit speeds of 90mph in some areas.

The region falls just outside of the area covered by the yellow warning.

But on Friday, another yellow weather warning has been issued which covers the entire region.

Storm Eunice will closely follow Storm Dudley and bring more 'very strong winds' at the end of the week.

The warning is in place from midnight on Friday to 9pm.

According to the Met Office, the winds could cause 'significant disruption' with a 'small chance that flying debris will result in a danger to life'.

Some travel disruption is predicted and there may be some power cuts.

Heavy rain is also forecast in Greater Manchester on Friday, with downpours forecast both in the morning and the afternoon.

Storm Dudley and Storm Eunice could also bring some snow, according to the Met Office.

Met Office Chief Meteorologist, Paul Gundersen, said: "An active jet stream is driving low-pressure systems across the country, both of which are likely to cause some disruption and National Severe Weather Warnings have been issued".
