Greater Manchester weather forecast for this week as heatwave set to hit

The Met Office has issued an amber warning for parts of Greater Manchester where temperatures are expected to hit almost 30C.

Temperatures are set to rise to 29C in Stockport and Manchester on Saturday. The warning also covers Salford, Bolton and parts of Bury. It comes into force on Thursday morning and lasts until Sunday evening.

It means Greater Manchester will be hotter than some popular holiday destinations abroad such as the Algarve in Portugal which will see temperatures of 26C on Friday and 28C on Saturday.

The Met Office said: "Temperatures will increase across much of the UK over the coming week. Temperatures will be highest across parts of England and Wales with these peaking on Friday and Saturday. In addition to high daytime maxima, temperatures overnight will remain very warm, especially in larger urban areas."

A spokesperson for the Met Office previously told the Manchester Evening News : "The north west is likely to start entering heatwave conditions, with temperatures of 25C or more, from Tuesday (August 9) and temperatures will raise to around 30C by the end of the week.

"By Sunday we are expecting the high pressure to shift eastwards allowing fresher, more Atlantic-dominated weather patterns to gain traction. This is likely to lead to cooler conditions and possibly it may bring more rain to the forecast. But the certainty for any outcome after the heat is quite low."
