Greater Manchester weather forecast for bonfire night weekend

November is well and truly here and on Saturday (November 5) the skies will be lit up with glowing fireworks in celebration of Bonfire Night.

It's that time of year to wrap up warm, gather your friends and family around a bonfire and enjoy some mesmerising firework displays. Bonfire Night 2022 celebrations have been announced across all ten Greater Manchester boroughs - but what will the weather be like this weekend as people head out for the festivities?

Rain is forecast in every borough but will have stopped by the evening. Some places - including Bury, Salford and WIgan - are even due a few hours of clear night skies, making it ideal for those attending fireworks displays.

Here is what's in store weather-wise for every Greater Manchester borough this weekend, according to the Met Office.

Bolton

Expect a grey and damp start in Bolton on Saturday morning. A mix of light and heavy rain showers are predicted to last until around 11am, with more rain returning between 2pm and 4pm.

The cloudy skies will clear up from 6pm but mist is forecast from around 10pm. Temperatures will peak at 12C.

Sunday will be a mostly cloudy day, with some light showers expected from lunchtime until around 3pm. The evening will remain dry but partly cloudy.

Bury

There will be non-stop rain in Bury from 7am until 4pm on Saturday. The rain will stop, leaving partly cloudy skies for a couple of hours. Between 7pm and 8pm the clouds will lift, making way for a clear night sky - ideal for watching the fireworks.

The cloud will return, along with some mist, for the rest of the evening. Temperatures will peak at 12C.

Sunday will be a mostly cloudy day, with some light showers expected from 9am until around 3pm. The evening will remain dry but cloudy.

Manchester

A morning of grey skies and wet weather is forecast for Manchester on Saturday. A mix of light and heavy rain showers are predicted to last until around 11am, with more rain returning between 2pm and 3pm.

But by the evening, the rain will have cleared, making way for partly cloudy skies. From 7pm, the clouds are predicted to clear up completely, leaving the sky clear - the perfect condition to view the fireworks. Temperatures will peak at 12C.

Sunday will be a mostly cloudy day, with some light showers expected from lunchtime until around 3pm. The evening will remain dry but partly cloudy.

Oldham

It will be a mainly rainy day in Oldham on Saturday, with both light and heavy showers forecast from 7am until 4pm. Fortunately the rain will let up and the clouds will partly clear for the rest of the night, although some mist is expected from 10pm.

Temperatures will peak at 11C. Sunday will be a mostly cloudy day, with a light shower forecast at 3pm.

Rochdale

Expect a mostly grey and rainy day in Rochdale on Saturday, with plenty of heavy rain forecast from 8am until 3pm. Fortunately the rain will clear up and stay away for the rest of the evening, but the sky will remain partly cloudy.

Temperatures will peak at 11C. Sunday will be a mostly cloudy day, with light showers forecast between lunchtime and 3pm.

Salford

Both heavy and light showers are in store throughout Saturday in Salford. The first spell will start from 7am until around 11am, while the next is forecast between 2pm and 4pm.

But the rain and clouds will let up for a clear night from 6pm, making it ideal to enjoy the fireworks displays. However mist will soon make its way in from 10pm.

Temperatures will peak at 12C. Sunday will be another cloudy day, with a quick, light shower due at 3pm.

Stockport

Stockport is in for overcast skies and some light rain between 8am and 11am on Saturday, with a second spell of rain expected from 3pm to 4pm. Fortunately the clouds will clear up between 6pm and 8pm, making it an ideal time to watch the fireworks.

But more mist and some clouds are due from 9pm. Temperatures will peak at 12C.

Sunday will be another wet and cloudy day, with light showers due between 9am and 3pm.

Tameside

It will be a wet morning in Tameside on Saturday, but the weather looks set to clear up by the evening. Heavy and light rain showers are forecast between 7am until 4pm.

But the rain will clear up and stay away for the rest of the evening, leading to partly cloudy skies. Temperatures will peak at 12C. Sunday will be a mainly cloudy day with some light rain forecast between lunchtime and 3pm.

Trafford

A rainy, grey Saturday is in store for Trafford but conditions should improve by the evening. Light rain is forecast between 7am and 11am, with a second spell due from 2pm until 4pm.

The rain will stop and skies will become partly cloudy from 5pm, but some mist is forecast from 10pm. Temperatures will peak at 12C.

Sunday will be a mainly cloudy day with some light rain forecast between lunchtime and 3pm.

Wigan

Saturday might see a rainy start in Wigan, but it will be followed by a clear sky to enjoy the fireworks from. Light showers are forecast non-stop from 6am until 3pm, turning heavy at times.

But between 5pm and 9pm the rain will stop, making way for a clear night sky - ideal for those attending fireworks displays. Some cloud and mist will return from around 10pm.

Temperatures will peak at 12C. Sunday will begin overcast and rainy, with showers forecast at 6am and again between lunchtime and 3pm.
