Coronavirus infection rates across Greater Manchester are continuing to plummet, with all but one of our 10 boroughs falling below the national average. Wigan is the only area across the region above the average infection rate for England, with the town's rate currently standing at 135.8 cases per 100,000 people.
Cases fell by at least 19 per cent week-on-week in all ten boroughs, and by as much as 40 per cent in some. Wigan has the highest infection rates across Greater Manchester, with Manchester having the lowest.
Across the region as a whole, the average infection rate now stands 111.9 cases per 100,000 people. A total of 3,172 people tested positive in the week to Sunday, April 29, 1,658 fewer than the week earlier.

Hospital admissions
A total of 422 patients were admitted to Greater Manchester NHS hospitals with Covid-19 in the week ending on April 24. That is 270 fewer than the week before, a fall of 178 percent. On Tuesday, April 26, there were 17 Mechanical Ventilation (MV) beds occupied by Covid patients in Greater Manchester NHS hospitals. That is two fewer than a week earlier.

Deaths
In the week ending April 29, a total of 43 people died within 28 days of a positive Covid test across Greater Manchester, which is 17 fewer than the week before. Since the start of the pandemic, there have been a total of 988,484 confirmed coronavirus cases in Greater Manchester. There has been a total of 9,217 deaths.
Cases reported in each of the ten boroughs
There were 262 positive coronavirus tests in Rochdale the week to April 29, 83 fewer than the previous seven days, a decrease of 24 per cent.
In Tameside , there was a weekly fall of 19 per cent, with 278 people testing positive, 64 fewer than the week earlier.
In Wigan cases were down week-on-week by 30 per cent. A total of 449 people tested positive, 193 fewer than the previous week.
A total of 247 people tested positive in Oldham , with cases falling by a quarter compared to the previous seven days. There were 82 fewer positive tests.
In Salford 288 people tested positive, 205 fewer than the previous seven days. That represents a 42 per cent week-on-week decrease.
A total of 494 positive tests were recorded in Manchester , 287 fewer than the previous week. There was a weekly decrease of 37 per cent.
In Bolton 297 people tested positive, 195 fewer than the previous week, representing a week-on-week fall of 40 per cent.
There were 297 positive tests recorded across Trafford , 145 fewer than the previous seven days. The infection rate fell by 33 per cent week-on-week.
In Bury there was a 39 per cent weekly decrease, with 206 people testing positive, 132 fewer than the previous week.
Stockport recorded 354 coronavirus cases, 272 fewer than in the previous seven days. That represents a decrease of 43 per cent week-on-week.
