A senior officer at Greater Manchester Police has been suspended, the force has announced. It follows an allegation of misconduct made against the officer.
GMP published a statement this afternoon (October 13) confirming the suspension. The officer has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) for further investigation.
The IOPC will consider the officer's 'standards of professional behaviour', GMP says. The force has not named the officer, given their rank or the district where they work.
GMP has also not released any further information about the nature of the complaint so far. In a statement issued this afternoon, Deputy Chief Constable Terry Woods, QPM said: "Following an allegation of misconduct, a senior officer has been suspended from duty and referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) for investigation into their standards of professional behaviour."
GMP gave no further comment on the officer's suspension when approached by the Manchester Evening News . The IOPC has also been approached for comment.
GMP remains in special measures, as it has been since December 2020 following an inspection by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Service. Stephen Watson became Chief Constable of GMP in May 2021, tasked with the brief of turning things around at the force.
