The chair of Greater Manchester Police Federation has shared a powerful personal story as he paid tribute to striking paramedics. Lee Broadbent described the moment seven years ago when paramedics rushed to his grandmother's aid after a fall.
He shared the experience with his Twitter followers as thousands of ambulance staff walk out on the first of two one-day strikes. Hundreds, including paramedics and call handlers, are striking across Greater Manchester in the biggest collective industrial action for 30 years.
PC Broadbent said he "stands firmly with team 999 and our Green Angel colleagues". And he said he was "sure many" of his colleagues also supported the action.
