The Lego community are some of the most creative folks around, and it's kit-bashes like this floating Lego Back to the Future DeLorean that prove it. Like, damn.
There's a whole army of creators modifying the best Lego sets into something else or creating something entirely new based on existing models, but this one by EnvironmentalMine570 takes the brick-built cake for me. It takes the Speed Champions Time Machine from Back to the Future model (which is usually around $28 or so at Amazon) and builds a levitating display into the base so that it can be shown off in true flying mode. While actually, y'know, flying. It's an incredible centerpiece, and you can check it out on reddit for full effect.
It's always been tricky to show off Doc Brown's iconic time-machine in its "flying" mode without using transparent stands, because despite Back to the Future Part II promising us floating skateboards, we're distinctly lacking in levitation tech thus far.
"I did my best to hide the levitating display puck with a small body modification, which looks a little off proportionally," EnvironmentalMine570 writes on their post, "but to the untrained eye is not super noticeable and it feels like a better choice over the puck being visible."
I'd say they did a great job with it, as it took me a moment to notice the mod – all I could see to start with was a flying DeLorean. So hey, I'd say "mission accomplished."
