One of Nottingham's oldest traditions is in danger of dying out after the closure of the mushy pea stall in Victoria Market. Ever since the start of the pandemic stallholder Claire Fisher struggled due to lack of footfall and contemplated quitting but she carried on after receiving financial help from government grants.
However, business remained slow and the rising cost of peas was the final nail in the coffin, leading to Claire calling it a day. Fans of the popular Goose Fair tradition, served with mint sauce, are saddened by the closure which comes at a time the future of the the indoor market is under review.
Kim Eyre, of Mapperley, said: "It's very sad. My dad used to take me every Saturday as a little girl from when it used to be in the outdoor section of Victoria Centre market, then they built the new bit and it moved inside and we still went every Saturday.
