Great British Bake Off teaser shows Paul Hollywood in mean spirits with new contestants

There's not long left now before the Great British Bake Off cooks up a storm on our TV once again.

And if the new teaser is anything to go by, Paul Hollywood is going to be a tough cookie to please yet again.

The hit cooking competition returns for its 13th season and is set to air on Channel 4 on September 13 at 8pm. The newest contestants will once again battle it out in the tent to see who the best baker is in the weekly competition.

In the short ad for the show, Matt Lucas is seen being his jovial self as he boosts all the bakers egos before Noel Fielding is heard asking: "What can go wrong?"

He quickly answers his own question by naming silver fox Paul Hollywood, with the camera cutting to a smug Paul flashing a smirk. The mash-up then sees Paul berating the latest batch who seemingly haven't hit his high standards.

It remains to be seen whether any of the 12 hopefuls will win round the judge with one of their signature dishes. From breads to biscuits to cakes and of course showstoppers, there are sure to be a host of big tests in store for the group.

This year's contest sees a wide range of contestants take part, with the youngest amateur baker being 18 and the oldest 42 years their elder.

There is certainly an eclectic mix of skills set to be on show with specialities ranging from Malaysian style Cornish pasties and 'child friendly horror' cake decorators.

Paul, Noel and Matt are once again joined on hosting and judging duties by Prue Leith. The quartet return to the infamous tents after two years away due to the Covid pandemic.

Last year, they were forced to operate in a Covid bubble, which put a huge number of restrictions on filming.

A source said: "All the team, particularly Prue [Leith], found it really tough not being able to go home each week. They are delighted that this year it will go back to the way it was, when they filmed at weekends and could leave during the week."
