The Great British Bake Off is back with a brand new class of amateur bakers who will be wowing the world with their spectacular showstoppers, edge-of-your-seat technical challenges - and, hopefully, not a soggy bottom in sight.
The brand new series, which will be back on screens from Tuesday, September 13, will see the show's regular judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood, comedians and hosts Matt Lucas and Noel Fielding and 12 new bakers from across the UK enter the tent for the show's 13th season, which will air on Channel 4 each week at 8pm for eight weeks.
Unveiling the bakers who will be competing for the title of Bake Off champion this year, the official Instagram page posted a reel which showed a picture of the new group with arrows pointing to each labelling their name.
Hoping to be in with a chance to be crowned Star Baker as well as receiving at least one of Paul Hollywood's famous handshakes on their journey as a validation of their culinary skills, this year's cohort ranges from a nuclear scientist and music teacher to students and a nanny.
The contestants were unveiled on Friday, September 2, and, as reported by The Radio Times, are as follows:
Maisam, 18, student and sales assistant from Greater Manchester
Rebs, 23, Masters student from County Atrim
James, 25, nuclear scientist from Cumbria
Abdul, 29, electronic engineer from London
Maxy, 29, architectural assistant from London
Sandro, 30, nanny from London
Syabria, 32, cardiovascular research associate from London
Kevin, 33, music teacher from East Sussex
Janusz, 34, personal assistant to head teacher from Lancashire
Will, 45, former charity director from London
Carole, 59, supermarket cashier from Dorset
Dawn, 60, IT manager from Bedfordshire
Responding to the announcement on social media, Bake Off champion of 2021, Giuseppe Dell'Anno, who claimed victory over Chigs Parmar and Crystelle Pereira in the final last year, wrote: "Ready to have your life turned up-side-down like a pineapple cake? Welcome, all! Can’t wait to meet you!"
2021 runner-up, Chigs, also said: "Hey everyone, welcome@to the bake off family. You are all going to love your bake off journey. Looking forward to seeing you all on the box. So excited for you all. X"
While Dr Rahul Mandal, who won the show in 2018, added a heartwarming message which read: "Hello everyone, and welcome to the bake off family!! You all are amazing, and I can't to meet you all in person, get to know you and see your gorgeous baking creations.
"Your life will never be the same after today. This is an amazing journey, so enjoy every single moment of it. And, we all other previous bakers including me are and will always be here for you, to cheer for you, to support you, laugh with you and cry with you. Just give us a shout and we all will be there!
