A man charged with using a camera on his shoe to photograph up the skirts of teenage girls at Adelaide's Brighton jetty has appeared in court.

Police have accused Gratian Costner of taking the images on the afternoon of February 6.

Officers were called to the jetty when people reported a man approaching unsuspecting young women and surreptitiously photographing them.

They arrested the 60-year-old, from Adelaide's southern suburbs, at the scene and seized a camera in his possession.

Police have asked for anyone who saw the man on the jetty to come forward, seeking more potential witnesses and victims.

They are yet to provide the court with further information about the alleged "upskirting".

Mr Costner was not required to indicate a plea when he appeared at Christies Beach Magistrates Court.

His bail was extended and he will return to court next month.

He did not speak to media outside the court and his lawyer, Paul Crawford, said he would not be commenting on the case.
