Grass fire burning in Colorado Springs races up to home fence lines, prompts evacuations

A grass fire burning in Colorado Springs on Thursday has prompted an evacuation notice.

The fire is burning in the area of 6700 block of Ackerman Drive, according to the Colorado Springs Fire Department.

People in the area of Summer Grace Street and Ackerman Drive have been ordered to evacuate.

Firefighters are on the scene where the fire scorched and burned fences along an open space area.

There are no immediate reports of homes lost or people injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Evacuees from the Ackerman fire are being sent to UC Health Park.

Meanwhile, Colorado Springs firefighters are fighting a structure fire at 3831 N. Cascade Avenue where the Skylark Mobile Home Park has been evacuated.
