Grant Williams on leaving the Boston Celtics, moving on to Dallas Mavericks

Former Boston Celtics forward Grant Williams is going to miss his Celtics teammates now that he is a Dallas Maverick, but the Charlotte native believes it was the best outcome for all that he moved on from the team that drafted him. In a recent interview with the Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach, Williams opened up about the major change he is undergoing after his sign and trade to the Mavs.

“It was very tough leaving the players,” admitted the Tennessee alum. “That was probably the hardest thing, just because it’s the group that you built and accomplished so many good things with.”

“It’s tough,” he added. “And organizationally, I had a lot of great friends there. It’s definitely difficult, especially when you spend so much time in your life in a place.”

“It’s like when you leave college, you always think, ‘Will I be able to go back and see those faces again?’” asked Williams. A frequent pregame workout partner of Jayson Tatum, the former Boston forward plans to make good use of his familiarity with the St. Louis native’s routine to mess with his friend.

“I’m still going to swat the (expletive) out of his shots in warm-ups when I come to Boston,” joked Williams.
