Grant McCann to Peterborough United: How fans reacted to Northern Ireland man's return

Grant McCann is back at Peterborough United for a second spell as manager.

The Northern Ireland man has signed a two-and-half year contract at the Weston Homes Stadium and comes in to replace Darren Ferguson who resigned on Sunday.

He will be assisted by Cliff Byrne, a former team-mate at Scunthorpe United and long-term number two.

McCann previously spent three years at Peterborough as manager and went on to guide Doncaster Rovers into the League One play-offs.

He also led Hull City to their first league title in 55 years when they got promoted from League One last season.

Peterborough fans have been reacting to McCann's return, with many welcoming the move.

Gary tweeted: "Got Hull punching above their weight this season, we'll see how it goes."

Simon added: "Great news! Good luck Grant McCann. Up The Posh!"

Mick said: "IMO best appointment we could have done, think it will also help that he has got his first choice assistant with him, will be interesting to see the team and formation on Saturday, good luck Grant & Cliff for the future."

Kyle tweeted: "Welcome home @grantmccann11."

Jaz said: "Felt like he was let go too soon when we first sacked him, but now he definitely has time to crack down and get a squad he likes."

Doncaster fan Dene tweeted: "Cracking manager for us at Donny. Exciting attacking football was a joy to watch."

@PUFC7 said on Twitter: "Not hugely inspiring but did very well at Hull and would be very happy if he did the same with us."

Paul said: "Not the first choice for many (myself included), but if nothing else, we may see a different/fresh approach. He’s not one to set-up defensively every game, that’s for sure. He won’t keep Posh up but sure he will have a good go at promotion from L1 next season."

And Paddy said: "I’ll support anyone who manages the club, I’m happy to know he’ll have an experienced number two so hopefully it’ll be better than last time."

Peterborough currently sit second from bottom in the Championship, eight points adrift of safety ahead of Saturday's game against McCann's former club Hull City.
