NEW DELHI: Former Kiwi star Grant Bradburn on Monday stepped down from his position as Pakistan's high-performance coach just before the T20I series against New Zealand. This marked the end of a chapter that saw him hold various roles within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
The PCB initially appointed Bradburn as the head coach of the team for a two-year term. Nevertheless, following the appointment of Mohammed Hafeez as the Director of the Pakistan men's cricket team in November last year, the PCB decided to reorganise the coaching staff's portfolios, a move that affected Bradburn's role.
Bradburn took to X to announce his departure and wrote, "Time to close the amazing chapter that has been Pakistan cricket. Three roles over five years, I am proud of what's been achieved and grateful to have worked with so many outstanding players, coaches and staff."
"Wishing the teams, staff and everyone at Pakistan Cricket continued success and growth," he added.
Former all-rounder Yasir Arafat was recently appointed as the Pakistan team's high-performance coach for the New Zealand T20I series.
Yasir will be a part of Men in Green's upcoming five-match T20I series against New Zealand, which is scheduled to begin from January 12 to 21, 2024 in New Zealand.
Bradburn's decision to leave his position further emphasises the ongoing transformation within the Pakistan team following their disappointing performance in the World Cup.
Star batter Babar Azam resigned from the captaincy across all formats of the game following Pakistan's disappointing performance in the ICC World Cup 2023 in India.
Babar experienced a challenging campaign with Pakistan in the ICC World Cup in India, concluding at the fifth position with eight points from nine matches.
Individually, Babar contributed 320 runs in the tournament, ranking third in scoring for Pakistan. His performance reflected an average of 40 and a strike rate of 82.90 across the nine World Cup matches.
Shan Masood has been appointed as the captain for the Test format, while Shaheen Shah Afridi has been entrusted with the role of captain for the T20 format.
