Granit Xhaka has detailed the mindset of the Arsenal squad ahead of the visit of Manchester City in Wednesday’s Premier League showdown with the two clubs going toe-to-toe for the title.
Arsenal followed their loss to Everton with a draw at home to Brentford on Saturday, leaving them just three points ahead of the Blues with a game in hand. The top two have not met in the Premier League this season after October’s clash was postponed amid the funeral of The Queen.
Their FA Cup meeting last month saw City come out 1-0 victors but they couldn’t take advantage of Arsenal’s slip-up at Everton by losing 1-0 to Tottenham in their next game. But a comfortable 3-1 win over Aston Villa on Sunday means a triumph over the Gunners this week will take them top of the table on goal difference albeit still having played a game more.

Speaking after the draw with Brentford, Xhaka insisted that Mikel Arteta and his players are only focusing on themselves and not on how their title rivals are faring.
As per the Evening Standard, he said: “If we are honest, we are not speaking about them [City],” he said. “We are looking at ourselves, game by game. We didn’t win [on Saturday], we took one point. And Wednesday is big - for them, for us. So, let’s see.”
Guardiola has won six of his seven meetings with former assistant Arteta since his move to the Emirates, his sole loss coming in the 2020 FA Cup semi-final. In those seven encounters, City have scored 15 goals and conceded just three times.
