Grandparents can now book free rooms at 35 hotels across the UK for family holidays

Grandparents looking to book family holidays can now bag a free room across hotels in the UK, Ireland, France and Germany.

That's because IHG Hotels & Resorts - which has brands such as Holiday Inn and Crowne Plaza - has launched a new Grandparents Stay for Free deal for 2022.

The offer allows families to book two rooms for a two-night stay at IHG hotels, and get the cheapest room for free.

There's a generous window of travel dates too between April 6 and July 15, so there's ample opportunity to plan a mini break together for some well-deserved quality time.

You can already book the free rooms on ihg.com/grandparents but you'll need to do so by April 20 when the offer ends (and it's worth noting the rooms are subject to availability).

There are some terms and conditions; for example, the free stay is based on the two rooms being booked under the same name, in the same hotel and on the same dates.

IHG also says that when booking, guests will see a charge against the second room, but this will be reduced to zero when you check-in at the hotel.

IHG Hotels has launched the new offer after research from the brand unveiled that creating new family memories if a key priority for over half of grandparents in 2022.

In fact, following the pandemic which saw lockdown rules forcing families to be apart, almost a third of grandparents admitted that not receiving hugs was one of the things they missed the most when not seeing their loved ones.

Dr Audrey Tang, a psychologist who worked with the group, said: “Over the last two years, we have been deprived of the wonderful element of connecting with oneanother. Grandchildren have been born, children are growing up, parents and grandparents were restricted to waving across online platforms. It was something, but it’s not the same as true, personal, in life connection.

"Lack of human physical contact can result in lower levels of happiness, higher reports of depression and stress, but as restrictions have lifted, people can once again come together to embrace life and each other, change their environments and create new memories and experiences as a family."
