A gang member jailed killing a van driver in a road rage attack was allowed out of prison to say goodbye to his dying dad, it has been revealed.
Thug Paul Lyons was escorted from prison to join up to 60 others at the bedside of his dad, David, a senior member of the Lyons crime clan.
The Lyons crime family were hit by the death of grandfather David after he suffered a fall and a heart attack at his home in Cumbernauld, near Glasgow, at the weekend.
Lyons was found outside his home shortly after midnight on Saturday and it is reported that the grandad was lying outside for almost an hour before being discovered.
He is believed to have fallen outside his home and the heart attack is suspected to have been triggered by a serious head injury.
The 63-year-old was rushed to hospital by his family, with sources saying they called multiple times for an ambulance before deciding to take him themselves.
Before dying he was visited by a huge flock of loved ones, a hospital insider told the Daily Record, including gangland thug son Paul, who was escorted from jail to say his final goodbyes.
Paul Lyons was jailed in 2010 for killing young dad Mark Fleeman in a drug-fuelled chase on the M74 motorway the year prior.
Thug Lyons was driving back from a Manchester nightclub where he'd taken Valium and boozed on wine and beer before pursuing 32-year-old Mark and his friend after they gestured at him over his appalling driving.
He was due to be released earlier this year, but lost his parole after he admitted to having a phone on him.
A source said the Lyons family had been devastated by David's death.
“Everyone in the Lyons family looked up to David," the source said. "His sudden death has left them shattered."
David ran a garage in Glasgow where, in 2006, members of the Lyons family were shot by rival gang members.
Michael Lyons was shot dead in the hit, but crime boss Steven Lyons and gangster Robert Pickett survived.
Hitmen Raymond Anderson and James McDonald were found guilty at the High Court in Glasgow in 2008 and each jailed for a record 35 years.
The Lyons and rival criminal family the Daniels have been linked to six unsolved gangland shootings in and around the city, it was reported earlier this year.
