Grand plans are underway as the Merseyside Former Boxers’ Association plans to celebrate its golden anniversary.
Formed at the Flat House pub in Tuebrook back in April 1973, Pat Dwyer, Alan Rudkin, Harry Scott and Johnny Cook all played major roles in establishing the association on the boxing circuit. Now, Mick Molyneux (chairman), Terry Carson (secretary), Brian Wood, Tommy Nesbitt and Brian Snagg are the five men at the helm of the group.
As well as providing a space for members of the Merseyside boxing community to meet up and reminisce, the association has also helped individuals and groups involved in the sport who have fallen on hard times over the last 50 years. Thousands of pounds have been raised for various charities, while many of the boxing gyms across the city that have produced British, European and World Champions have also benefited as a result of the work carried out by the MFBA.
