Since 2019, the Grand Ole Opry has been recognizing emerging talents in country music through its NextStage program. This initiative aims to highlight artists or bands that embody outstanding authenticity and creativity, providing them with a platform to showcase their music to a wider audience by performing at the Opry multiple times throughout the year.
The NextStage program has a proven track record of identifying promising talents, with past participants such as Parker McCollum, Riley Green, and Megan Maroney going on to achieve significant success in the industry. Notably, Lainey Wilson, a member of the 2021 NextStage class, was named CMA Entertainer of the Year just two years later.
The NextStage Class of 2024 was recently announced, featuring a diverse group of artists including 49 Winchester, Anne Wilson, Chase Matthew, Ella Langley, and others. These artists will receive guidance and support from established figures in country music, such as Jamey Johnson and Lainey Wilson, who are strong advocates for nurturing rising talent.
During a panel discussion, Johnson shared a valuable lesson he learned early in his career about trusting his instincts, while Wilson emphasized the importance of connecting with the audience and making them feel something during performances.
The new NextStage members expressed excitement about the opportunities that come with this recognition, with Josh Ross highlighting the years of hard work that have led to this moment. Madeline Edwards and Ella Langley also shared their gratitude for being part of a program that honors the tradition of country music while embracing diverse styles.
For Langley and her fellow Class of 2024 members, being part of the Opry NextStage represents a significant milestone in their musical journey. With upcoming projects and tours on the horizon, these artists are poised for a successful year ahead.
As Johnson and Wilson took the stage at the Grand Ole Opry following the NextStage announcement, they reiterated their commitment to supporting the new artists and helping them navigate the challenges of the music industry. The Opry's dedication to fostering talent and passing on the legacy of country music underscores its role as a nurturing family that paves the way for future generations.
