A gran has won a 180mph Porsche 911 worth £100,000 - but is keeping her beloved Vauxhall Corsa. Joanne McGuigan, 49, scooped the red supercar after paying £10 to enter the Omaze Million Pound House Draw.
The gran-of-four first thought it was "too good to be true" when was told she'd won - and didn't even bother telling car-mad husband Iain, 52, to avoid getting his hopes up. But the former paediatric nurse had in fact won the Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Coupe as an “Early Bird Prize” in the draw.
Despite winning the 180mph sports car, Joanne has no immediate plans to part with her nippy Vauxhall Corsa VXR worth £10,000. Joanne, of Fife, Scotland, said: "I’d just come in from work and saw an email from Omaze saying I’d won something.
"I thought it sounded too good to be true so didn’t even mention to my husband when he came home. Later that night I decided to check it again and was flabbergasted to find that my entry code did indeed match - and I’d genuinely won a Porsche.
"My husband was still dubious though and told me not to get my hopes up, but now the car is actually here I think he’s finally convinced. I have never won anything before this so I’m still in shock to be honest.
"It’s the first time I’ve ever been inside a Porsche and the car is absolutely stunning - after going for a spin I can safely say it's definitely quicker than my Vauxhall."
But despite being the newest owner of the iconic car, Joanne said they have plans to sell it, and keep her Vauxhaull Corsa. While it can't quite compete with the Porsche's 3.0L, twin-turbo, six-cylinder engine and 0-62mph of just four seconds, her 1.6-litre Corsa can still produce a respectable 200bhp and takes seven seconds to reach 62mph.
Joanne, who recently started working as a training officer for home care through her local council, said: "As much as my husband would love to keep it, the money we’ll get from selling it is life changing. We’re going to sell it and use the money to pay off our mortgage - and treat our children and grandchildren.”
Joanne paid just £10 for her winning entry as part of her Omaze Million Pound House Draw subscription and is hoping her good luck doesn't stop there. The main prize is a stunning £4,500,000 waterfront house in Cornwall - as part of Omaze’s biggest ever prize draw, raising vital funds for Marie Curie.
It features a state-of-the-art kitchen and breakfast room, a striking cantilevered staircase, a yoga studio, multiple en-suites and its own private terrace. The grand prize winner will instantly become a multi-millionaire - as well as being given £100,000 in cash to go alongside the house.
The Cornwall II House Draw will support the end of life charity, Marie Curie, helping it provide care and support to more people affected by terminal illness. Omaze has guaranteed a minimum donation of £100,000 and has a target of at least £500,000.
Matthew Reed, Chief Executive at Marie Curie, said: “Every five minutes, someone in the UK dies without the care and support they need. This is heart-breaking for each person this happens to, and for the people who love them. We are delighted that Omaze shares our belief that everyone deserves the best experience possible at the end of life and has chosen to partner with us.
"This partnership will raise important funds and awareness so that Marie Curie can be there for more people with a terminal illness.”
James Oakes at Omaze said: “We’re honoured to be partnering with Marie Curie for our biggest ever house draw, in Cornwall. We’re incredibly proud that the Omaze community has already raised £11,150,000 for good causes across the UK.”
