By Mawunyo Gbogbo

I mentioned earlier that the Grammys was going to mark 50 years of hip hop.

Well, that's on now, y'all.

LL Cool J introduced a stellar line up before getting on stage himself. With Black Thought kicking off the performances, he was joined on stage by Run DMC, Grammy winners Salt-N-Pepa, Rakim and Public Enemy, with more to come.

Ice T is on stage now.

And now Queen Latifah with U.N.I.T.Y.

You may be used to seeing him on Power nowadays, but Method Man will always be a rapping superstar.

Busta Rhymes now. And Missy Elliott in what looks like a space suit.

Ummm... it's getting hot in herrrre. Here comes Nelly.

Happy Birthday, hip hop!

Here's Double J's Dan Condon on the performances and whether this recognition is long overdue.
