Brighton & Hove Albion manager Graham Potter has heaped praise on striker Danny Welbeck ahead of next weekend's clash with Newcastle United. Welbeck produced an excellent performance against his former side Manchester United on Sunday as the Seagulls returned home from Old Trafford with an impressive 2-1 victory.
The 31-year-old was a constant thorn in the Man United defence as his runs in behind caused both Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez all sorts of problems. And although he did not get on the scoresheet, it was one of those runs that helped set up the first goal as he got to the by-line and produced an excellent cross for Pascal Gross to tap home the opener.
Newcastle head to the Amex on Saturday looking to build on their own winning start to the season and are no stranger to being on the end of a high quality Welbeck performance. Welbeck was extremely impressive in the Seagulls' 3-0 win over Newcastle back in March 2021 and based on Potter's post-match comments, the Magpies' defence will need to be at their best.

Speaking after the game, Potter claimed that Welbeck is full of confidence after enjoying his most productive pre-season to date under his management this summer. He said: "I thought he was amazing. He is really enjoying his football.
"He has had his best pre-season since we've been working together. You could see the danger he poses to players at this level. It was fantastic. What impressed me about the team was there was a lot of responsibility out on the pitch."
