Graham Potter has spoken of how proud he is to take on the role of Chelsea's head coach and described himself as a partner of the Blues' ownership group. The former Brighton boss was announced as the club's new coach on Thursday afternoon and signed a five-year deal.
The 47-year-old leaves Brighton having earned a stellar reputation with the Seagulls following stints with Swansea City and Ostersunds. Potter helped the south coast side to their best ever finish last term as they finished ninth in the Premier League.
However, Potter now arrives at Chelsea with the challenge of finishing in the top four and competing in the Champions League and appears to relish the opportunity. The coach also highlighted his desire to help develop a culture for an exciting group of players.

After completing his move, Potter said: "I am incredibly proud and excited to represent Chelsea FC, this fantastic football club. I am very excited to partner with Chelsea’s new ownership group and look forward to meeting and working with the exciting group of players and to develop a team and culture that our amazing fans can be proud of.
"I would also like to place my sincere thanks to Brighton & Hove Albion for allowing me this opportunity and in particular Tony Bloom and all the players, staff and supporters for their continued support during my time at the club."
Perhaps what is key in Potter's words is description of Todd Boehly and co as partners. The American owner is believed to be keen on a collaborative process in all areas of the club. Tuchel was given additional responsibilities in this summer's transfer market with Boehly acting as interim-sporting director, when ultimately his desire was to focus on coaching and matters directly on the pitch.
Chelsea chairman Boehly, was quick to highlight what Potter could do away from the pitch in his comments after appointing Tuchel's successor. He said: "We are thrilled to bring Graham to Chelsea. He is a proven coach and an innovator in the Premier League who fits our vision for the club. Not only is he extremely talented on the pitch, he has skills and capabilities that extend beyond the pitch which will make Chelsea a more successful club."
