Graham Potter accepts Chelsea have taken calculated risks by signing players to six, seven and eight-year contracts – but the Blues head coach is confident the strategy will pay off as the new arrivals “are not here to be fourth or third, they are here to win”.
Under the Todd Boehly/Clearlake Capital ownership, Chelsea have invested heavily this season to reshape their first-team squad. The onus has been on bringing in high-potential players and ensuring their peak years are spent at Stamford Bridge.
It’s why summer arrivals Marc Cucurella, Carney Chukwuemeka and Cesare Casadei – and January addition David Datro Fofana – are all committed until 2029. Wesley Fofana is tied down until 2030, as are Benoit Badiashile and Noni Madueke. Mykhailo Mudryk’s contract runs until 2031.
