Graham Potter 'reassured' over Chelsea manager position following meeting with Behdad Eghbali

Chelsea manager Graham Potter used the World Cup break to work with his squad and meet with Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali. The Blues are underperforming this season and resume Premier League action against Bournemouth on Tuesday, currently sat eighth in the table.

Chelsea's last game before all club action was put on hold came in the form of a 1-0 defeat away at St. James' Park against a Newcastle side that are currently fighting amongst the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham at the top of the table. Potter's time at Stamford Bridge started strong but the Blues' form before the World Cup break raised serious concerns amongst supporters.

Under the previous regime of Roman Abramovich, there is every chance Potter would already be fighting for his job just three months in. New owners Boehly and Eghbali seem more willing to give the manager more time to settle into the role as they look to implement a new culture at Chelsea.

It has been reported that Potter jetted out to California during the World Cup to hold talks with Eghbali where he was reassured that his long-term future at Chelsea is not in any doubt, as per The Mirror. The Blues boss has since shed light on that same meeting and feels "even more confident" to succeed in his time at Stamford Bridge.

Ahead of the Bournemouth clash on Tuesday evening, Potter said: "I’m even more confident, even more aware of the support I have now than three months ago when I took the job. It’s a credit to them [the owners] and how they have communicated with me, it’s been fantastic.

"Had a good chat with him [Eghbali]. Fantastic support, really looking forward to the weeks and the months and the years ahead. We understand where we're at at the moment, understand the challenges we have but that's where we are on the journey at the moment.

"I would liked to have go up and down California with a couple of wins but it wasn't to be so you have to reflect, you have to take the pain and get the frustration and work out how can we go forward, how can we make this situation better. That's the job, that's what I spent a bit of my time doing."

Potter is clearly aware of the task at hand and reports have suggested that he could keep his job even if Chelsea miss out on a top four spot come the end of the season. Whilst this would be a huge blow for the Blues ahead of a crucial summer transfer window, the new owners seem convinced that Potter is the right man for the job.
