Graham Potter has admitted that he was not involved in the negotiations that saw Enzo Fernandez join Chelsea for a British-record transfer fee of £105million on deadline day - but stressed that he cannot wait to work with the World Cup winner.
Fernandez emerged as a January transfer target for the Blues after producing a string of stellar performances for Argentina in Qatar. However, it had seemed as though Chelsea's hopes of prising the 22-year-old away from Benfica were over after they refused to trigger his €120m (£105m) release clause in the opening weeks of the January transfer window.
But Chelsea returned to the negotiating table last week and eventually thrashed out an agreement with Benfica to acquire the sought-after midfielder's services in a deal that eclipses the £100m that Manchester City shelled out to sign Jack Grealish last summer.
