Graham Potter Chelsea sack latest: Leicester offer, Julian Nagelsmann stance, De Zerbi verdict

Graham Potter has been sacked as Chelsea manager just six months after replacing Thomas Tuchel at Stamford Bridge. The Blues slipped into the bottom-half of the Premier League table following a 2-0 defeat at home against Aston Villa and supporters at Stamford Bridge were far from pleased.

Various chants and boos were directed towards the 47-year-old, such as 'sacked in the morning' and 'you don't know what you're doing'. Chelsea took the decision to part ways with Potter with Bruno Saltor now in charge in an interim role until a permanent replacement is appointed.

football.london understands the process to replace Potter will not be rushed and that Julian Nagelsmann is the favourite to take the hot seat at Stamford Bridge in his place. So, football.london has the latest on Potter's situation after he was dismissed from his role with the Blues.

Graham Potter rejects Leicester approach

Graham Potter is said to have rejected an approach from Leicester to replace Brendan Rodgers as manager at the King Power Stadium.

Potter was sacked from his post as Chelsea boss on Sunday, the same day that Rodgers lost his job. The 47-year-old endured a difficult time at Stamford Bridge and looks like he is not ready to jump straight back into management just yet.

Roberto De Zerbi 'sorry' for Potter

Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi says he feels "sorry" for Graham Potter after being sacked by Chelsea over the weekend.

De Zerbi has repeatedly thanked the ex-Ostersunds manager for leaving him such a talented and experienced squad and that he deserves a lot of credit for turning them into a top-10 team, after being a side fighting for survival in the Premier League. And on Monday, the Italian gave his thoughts on Potter, who also led Chelsea to the quarter-finals of the Champions League but won just 38.7% of his games in charge, at his pre-match Bournemouth press conference.

"I am very sorry. It is bad news for the coaches. I think you give too much importance to the coaches because the players are always the most important and I don't like when coaches are sacked because the responsibility is not only with them. The players, the club, it's not very good news," he said.

"I want to say thanks to Graham Potter. I have a team with a very good attitude and mentality. It is difficult when you don't know the situation or another dressing room. I don't like speaking about other teams and coaches. I am sorry because when there are these situations they are sad."

Potter replacement 'appreciated'

According to Fabrizio Romano, Julian Nagelsmann has always been 'appreciated' by Chelsea as a future top coach. Ironically, the 35-year-old was replaced by Thomas Tuchel at Bayern Munich earlier this month.

Nagelsmann stance

According to Sky Sports Germany, Chelsea are continuing to support Potter behind the scenes, but that hasn't stopped Nagelsmann from working himself onto the club's radar. The report states Tottenham is not an option for the German and it's 'unlikely' that he'd take on a new job straight away so soon after being sacked by Bayern Munich.

'Sacked in the morning'

Chelsea fans once more turned against Potter after the latest loss. Not only did they boo their head coach, there were also chants of 'you're getting sacked in the morning' from the Stamford Bridge faithful as well as from the jubilant away fans.

Enrique and Zidane eyed

According to Spanish outlet Sport back in March, Luis Enrique and Zinedine Zidane were the frontrunners for the Chelsea job should Potter leave. The duo are both currently out of work so the Blues would not have to pay a compensation fee to bring them in.

Mourinho on Roma exit

Jose Mourinho is on the list of potential replacements for Potter and has already spoken this season about leaving Roma. Earlier this year, he said: "I could've left in December and didn’t, this is my life, every day there is a game. Sometimes it might seem as if we are struggling, but we are up there with all the others who are very strong."

Arteta sympathy

Mikel Arteta sympathised with Potter ahead of his sacking. The Arsenal boss said: "Absolutely. We are colleagues and we all know the pressure, the demands and the uncertainty this industry has and as well because the fact the ball has to go into that net and there are sometimes many factors that prevent that which you cannot control. So of course you empathise because you suffer, because you know how it is going through those moments."
