Graham Norton is receiving heat from viewers for mocking Henry Cavill over his Warhammer hobby.
The 38-year-old was a guest on The Graham Norton Show on Friday night (December 3) to promote the second season of the Netflix fantasy drama The Witcher.
As well as discussing the new series, Norton also quizzed Cavill on what activities he does in his spare time with the host telling him: “You do fly your nerd flag with pride,” before he goes to mention one in particular that comes to mind.
Though Cavill cut in and added: “Makes me sound weird.”

“Well, you do have more hobbies than the average man, I’d say,” Norton noted, and then asked: “But you paint World Of WarCraft?
Not quite, as Cavill corrected: “Warhammer.”
“I’m a fool,” Norton jested causing the audience to erupt in laughter. Wanting to know more, he then asked Cavill if he paints the figures himself or whether he buys them pre-painted.
To which Cavill explained players often do paint them but added there’s another fun gaming element to them.

“When you paint them, what do you do with them then, Henry?” Norton questioned.
“You put them together in little armies and you fight against someone else’s army,’ Henry replied, causing laughter in the audience once more. “It’s fun. It sounds ridiculous but it is fun.”
After giving all the details, Norton commented: “Toys, very good fun.”
Since this exchange, it has prompted viewers and fellow Warhammer enthusiasts to share their discontent on Twitter at Norton mocking Cavill over his pass time, describing it as “truly toxic.”
I think the part that has stood out most to me about this is: no matter who you are, how well you’re known, how attractive you are, how much money you have, how nice you are, it doesn’t defend you from snide remarks for having a hobby. So, you might as well let you be you, right? https://t.co/hDpiQy0YPP

Let your freak flags fly, people. Enjoy what you damn well please… if anyone belittles your joy, send your little painted armies to kick their ass from here to Sunday.

I am team:nerd all the way. We get to enjoy shit… https://t.co/kzuzmY9CbT
Henry Cavill is a treasure. Fuck off with this sneery, judgey attitude. If you're not hurting anyone enjoy whatever the hell you want. https://t.co/fUkjfpmo60

Graham Norton shaming Henry Cavill for not having traditional masculine hobbies (drinking too much and hassling people different from him) https://t.co/dYsH5agAbD

Normalise not laughing at men for having a hobby that isn't drinking, sport, or fishing. It hurts to watch Henry Cavill talk about something he loves, and get laughed at and dismissed. https://t.co/CX9suBdgGQ

Stop mocking men for having hobbies
— Antonia (@retoldstories) December 6, 2021
Stop making men feel uncomfortable for sharing feelings
Stop making men feel like they aren't enough
This conversation could be devastating for someone less confident
Let's not shame men like this https://t.co/cGcdYKabYY
This attitude towards hobbies is one of the reasons I am glad I no longer live in Britain. I just don't get this kind of prejudice on display here and it's entirely unwarranted too.https://t.co/jNiEswrc4O

This is an incredibly distasteful way to talk about someone’s hobby on a televised show

You can still support a hobby even if you don’t understand it. Life is short, so just be happy for people doing what makes them feel good https://t.co/EhC1w6cn7M
This is a bad look for @grahnort. Belittling and/or outright mocking someone’s hobby or enjoyment is truly toxic. The idea that a man shouldn’t have fun is a mental health issue at its core. This needs to stop and people who do this need to be called out. Fuck yeah, Henry Cavill! https://t.co/yVSF512vrL

Though there were some people who defended the host, noting that he mocks most of his celebrity guests - with one describing it as “normal British banter.”
so many people getting mad about this clip like graham norton doesn't make fun of every single guest on his show https://t.co/6gIuKaQB4F

Like, isn’t that the draw of Graham Norton? Watching some celebrity get some good natured ribbing?

Normal British banter

Finally! Saw so many folks getting angry and I'm like: Have you ever watched an episode of this show? He does this to all his guests!
