Graeme Souness admits to Rangers fear over Brendan Rodgers Celtic return as he labels transfer budget 'not good news'

Graeme Souness senses promises made to Brendan Rodgers over his Celtic transfer budget spells bad news for his beloved Rangers.

The Ibrox and Liverpool legend has been reacting to the announcement of the former Anfield gaffer making his return to Parkhead, four years on from his controversial exit to Leicester City. Rodgers replaces Ange Postecoglou on a three-year deal and the Parkhead hierarchy have vowed to back him in the transfer market ahead of a return to the Champions League group stage.

Michael Beale is undergoing a rebuild at Ibrox but club icon Souness admits that if Rodgers has been promised a Celtic war chest, then it's not good news for the side chasing down the champions. He told talkSPORT: "I tell you what it does, obviously my focus on the other side of Glasgow. This is the worry for me as a Rangers man, that he has asked for assurances on budgets.

"What he is going to spend, how much he can spend. I am sure if Brendan had sat he would have got job offers back in England, maybe not the Premier League but certainly top end Championship.

"So it worries me slightly he has gone back for that fact alone that promises have been made to him about budgets and how much he can spend. That ain't good news for Rangers.
