Aberdeen have snapped up former captain Graeme Shinnie from Wigan Athletic on loan until the end of the season.
Jim Goodwin has brought Shinnie back to Pittodrie from the English Championship side having enjoyed a successful spell under former boss Derek McInnes after his arrival from Inverness Caledonian Thistle. He led the Dons into Europe in his three consecutive seasons in the Granite City. Shinnie had four years with his hometown club before he left Aberdeen on freedom of contract to join Derby County in 2019.
New Wigan boss Kolo Toure was keen to shake up his squad and Record Sport revealed that Shinnie was nearing a return to Pittodrie. Goodwin told Red TV: “Graeme is a player who knows the Club well, he is aware of the level of expectation here and despite being away from Pittodrie for a few years he obviously still has close connections with the place and a number of the staff.
“He has great leadership qualities and will bring a wealth of experience to the squad. We look forward to working with him in the coming months.”
