Grab, an on-demand super-app available in Southeast Asia, has promoted executive director Worachat Luxkanalode to be the new country head of Grab Thailand, effective from today.
According to a statement issued by Grab, Mr Worachat will be in charge of the business strategy and operations of Grab's businesses in Thailand.
He succeeds Alejandro Osorio, who had been in the top position at Grab Thailand for 21 months.
Grab said Mr Osorio will move to another leadership role within Grab, though it did not provide any further details.
"Worachat will be setting strategic direction for business developments across three key verticals: mobility, deliveries and financial services," Grab said.
"He will also be responsible for creating and maintaining a balanced ecosystem to ensure sustainable growth for Grab Thailand, and continuing to drive the 'GrabForGood' mission, which focuses on providing opportunities and improving the quality of life for Thai people by leveraging technology and the Grab platform."
According to Kasikorn Research Center, online food orders grew by 76% year-on-year in the first eight months of 2022, driven by the government's co-payment scheme, but in the final quarter they are likely to drop to a 44% year-on-year increase.
The top three players are Grab, Line Man Wongnai and Foodpanda, while AirAsia, Robinhood and ShopeeFood are still limited in their service areas, the research house indicated.
Grab said it was committed to strengthening its position as a leading super-app with three approaches: accelerating business growth, creating opportunities for Thais, and pursuing sustainability.
Mr Worachat joined Grab in 2019 as country head of Grab Financial Group, which he led for the development of financial services and growth strategies for Grab's fintech business in Thailand.
In 2021, he took on an additional position as executive director of Grab Thailand, where he played a key role in driving the GrabForGood mission, and oversaw government affairs programmes as well as strengthening partnerships with various state agencies to support the country's digital economy.
