A Bristol-based tech firm has expanded with a move to a new office in one of the city’s tallest buildings.
Focal Point Positioning specialises in technology designed to improve the performance of GPS chips in smartphones, wearables and vehicles.
The business, which has its UK headquarters in Cambridge and an office in the US, has relocated its South West operations to the Castlemead office building by Bristol’s shopping quarter Broadmead.
The venture capital-backed firm, which secured its biggest equity deal last year when it closed a £23m funding round, said staff at the new hub would work to improve the location accuracy, safety and operating efficiency of 1.5 billion smartphone users, 100m sports wearables and 100m cars.
The company, which was previously based at 30 Queen Square in Bristol, added that its new base would help it to attract some of the South West’s top tech talent, as it seeks to grow its regional engineering and support teams and expand its local customer base.
Chief operating officer Darren Buckle said: “Working in collaboration with our UK Cambridge headquarters and with colleagues in the USA, we look forward to continued operational and commercial success in both the automotive and smartphone sectors. Investment in people is a critical component of our strategy, enabling us to continue to advance our technologies for a smart, safer world”.
Founded in 2015, Focal Point’s workforce includes former Broadcom, BAE Systems, European Space Agency workers, with experienced Silicon Valley director Scott Pomerantz joining as chief executive in 2021.
