Richard Boyd-Barrett criticised the Government’s St Patrick Day agenda, saying that it was “obnoxious” to send so many people away during a cost of living crisis.

He said: “We have a housing and cost of living emergency in this country where people are really suffering.

“Record numbers homeless, record numbers dependent on food banks, record numbers being driven into poverty by the cost of living and the housing prices.

“The idea that they're gonna go swarming all around the world rather than take the sort of radical emergency measures that are necessary to assist people that were really struggling is really fairly obnoxious in the current climate.

“These junkets, it's highly questionable what they actually achieve.

“[These are] PR opportunities for government ministers, the Taoiseach, the Tánaiste and so on.”
