Government Buildings evacuated as fire alarm halts post-Budget briefing

A post-Budget briefing had to be halted after a fire alarm went off in Government Buildings.

The incident happened in the Government Buildings press centre at 6pm on Tuesday. Government ministers and members of the press were evacuated from the building.

Housing Minister Darragh O'Brien, Minister of States Peter Burke and Malcolm Noonan were forced to hold the post-Budget press conference outdoors. It is unknown what caused the alarm to go off but it is believed it may have been set off accidentally, the Irish Sun reports.

The Help to Buy scheme that gives first-time buyers tax rebate of €30,000 will be extended for another two years.
