A major Democrat, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, has demanded that independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. be provided Secret Service protection in the wake of the suspected assassination attempt on former President Trump. Polis took to social media shortly after the shooting at Trump's rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, urging President Biden to reverse the administration's decision to deny Kennedy Secret Service protection.

Despite accumulating $1.4 million in debt to a private security firm, Kennedy's requests for Secret Service protection have been consistently turned down by the Biden administration. Kennedy has criticized Biden for rejecting multiple protection requests dating back to last year, even in the face of documented death threats against him.

The Biden administration has stated that Secret Service protection for Kennedy is not warranted, as per a letter obtained by Deseret News. This decision has raised concerns, especially given the history of political assassinations in the Kennedy family, with both his father, former Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and uncle, former President John F. Kennedy, being assassinated in the 1960s.

Following the recent incident at Trump's rally, Kennedy appeared in an interview where he commended the Secret Service agents who responded to protect Trump during the shooting. Despite this, he refrained from directly criticizing the Biden administration for denying him protection.

The White House has not yet responded to requests for comment on the matter.
