Rishi Sunak’s daughter is tucking into restaurant-standard grub at her private school while he refuses to give poverty-stricken children free meals.
Anoushka, 10, attends £22,000-a-year Glendower Prep in South Kensington, London – where pupils enjoy a menu that bosses boast “can’t be bettered”.
Dishes prepared by chef Maciej Jaskulski and his team include jackfruit and butternut squash stew, teriyaki chicken with pineapple rice and sides of caramelised carrots and minted peas.
Veggie options range from smoky aubergine and sweet potato tart to gnocchi with mascarpone.
Meanwhile, hard-up pupils sent heartbreaking letters to Prime Minister Mr Sunak this week begging him to give free school meals to all primary pupils.
In one letter, Poppy, seven, said: “We want you to give all children a free school meal. If you don’t have much money you can’t have food and without food your brain won’t learn.”
The Food Foundation estimates four million kids, nearly one in 10, suffer food insecurity, which means they do not eat enough or that their food is of a poor nutritional standard.
Free school food is currently only offered up to the age of seven, unless families get certain benefits.
Labour MP Ian Byrne said: “It’s imperative this government and politicians understand four million children are going to school hungry as a result of their political choices.
“We need to look at universal free school meals as a necessary investment in the future of our children.”
The PM’s eldest daughter, Krishna, 12, attends Wycombe Abbey School, Bucks, where fees start at £12,000 per term.
