Gothic Glamor Interiors Are Trending Thanks to This Oscar-Winning Movie Starring Jacob Elordi – Designers Love the Dramatic Look

Jacob Elordi.

The modern-day twist on Frankenstein has captivated movie theater audiences, not only for the acting prowess of Jacob Elordi and Oscar Isaac, but for its style, with three gleaming Oscars to show for it: Best Costume Design, Best Production Design and Best Makeup and Hair Styling. It's captured a moment we're all obsessed with – gothic glamor.

Gothic interior design may not be new, but it's certainly seeing a revival in the movie world, thanks to recent releases, including Frankenstein, The Bride! and Wuthering Heights. Below, I've rounded up some Gothic-inspired pieces to inspire your decor and expert tips on bringing this look into your home.

So, why our obsession with all things gothic? A gothic scheme creates a sense of intrigue. It can feel unexpected and sometimes make you a little uneasy, but it's often loaded with the glamor of a bygone era, which feels storied and layered in a way that is often less achievable (in such a dramatic way), with lighter and brighter palettes.

Movies such as Frankenstein play into that intrigue and have seen the return of this dark and dramatic style in everything from the incredible costumes to the striking interiors, while hints of glamor bring a nostalgia that feels familiar and decadent. It's that mix of mystery and luxury, through the incorporation of materials, textures and that shape that creates a beautiful tension.

'Drama comes from scale, contrast, and intentional focal points that feel immersive rather than random,' explains Bruce Tucker, Co-Founder, Octane Seating and you can't do this look by halves. 'Floor-to-ceiling velvet curtains, a deep saturated wall colour, and one large-format pattern used once, then echoed subtly, create impact without visual noise.'

When it comes to movies like Frankenstein, it's the creation of this dreamlike world that appeals – but there are plenty of ways to bring elements of that cinematic glamor into your home and real life. So experiment with deep shades, luxe fabrics and subtly gothic silhouettes.

One celebrity who masters gothic glamor in a really stylish and modern way is Johnny Galecki, who, with the help of his designers, Pearce & Ward, incorporates moody hues, layered patterns, and luxe hints to bring his spaces to life. Take a look at his interiors for inspiration on re-creating this style borrowed from the movies.
