Gordon Ramsay struggles to keep his cool after Welsh contestant serves honey to vegans

Famous TV chef Gordon Ramsay struggled to keep his cool as a Welsh contestant on his new show Future Food Stars served honey to vegans. Working in a team Asher Flowers from the Rhondda Valley, who you can read more about here, included honey in one of their 'vegan' recipes.

Future Food Stars sees the 12 of the UK's best up-and-coming food and drink entrepreneurs compete for Gordon's investment. Tasked with feeding 12 paying guests a beautiful al fresco dining experience, which would test their hospitality and cooking skills, Gordon wanted his guests "blown away" by the experience. Asher and his team did not get off to good start when they told their guests the starter was vegan when there was actually honey in it.

The confusion started when the red team split into the cooking and front-of-house roles and stopped communicating with each other. Asher served up his gazpacho canape which he assured guests was vegan when directly asked by one of the guests. He said: "It's all vegan yes. We've taken care of all dietary requirements."

Shortly after serving his canape and after the guests had all taken a sip or finished the canape, Asher listed the ingredients. He said: "So the starter you had there with that canape was a Gestapo-er gazpacho sorry, with pea, conference pears, and then a touch of honey."

The guests' faces fell when they realised they had eaten honey, which is not vegan, and many looked shocked and disappointed. Gordon was also there, holding his hands to his mouth and looking very disappointed.

Gordon apologised to the guests and then went to have a word with the team, clearly disappointed and struggling to control his temper. He said: "We served honey to the vegans... we can't serve honey to vegans. Period," as he hit his hand against his other hand to stress his point.

Asher stepped up and accepted responsibility for the mistake and an exasperated Gordon said: "It's everybody's responsibility." At the end of the task 11 of the 12 guests said they would not pay for the experience and Asher's team lost the task.

Calling the service side of the team "disorganised, underprepared" Asher was listed as one of the individuals who let the team down. This was Asher's second time in the Grilling and Gordon was not impressed.

He said, with head in his hands: "How the hell did we serve honey to a vegan?". Asher was able to remain in the process for another week, after defending himself to Gordon. Gordon Ramsay's Future Food Stars continues on BBC One at 9pm on Thursday, April, 14.
