Gordon Ramsay's 'little trick' ensures soft-boiled eggs that are 'perfectly yolky'

In theory, eggs are so simple to make. You pop them in water for a certain amount of time, and they come out scrumptious and exactly the way you wanted them, right?

Wrong. There are so many things that can go wrong, from overcooking them so the yolk goes too hard, to taking them out too early and you're left with a runny mess.

Luckily, celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has shared his quick and easy 'trick' to make the perfectly soft-boiled eggs with that "yolky" middle you are always hoping for when you take them out of the water.

The Hell's Kitchen chef took to TikTok to share his best tips, and the video has now been seen by more than 8million people.

For dunkable soft-boiled eggs, the Kitchen Nightmares star recommends first lowering them into water with a spoon, which isn't boiling "ferociously", for six minutes.

If you don't boil them gently, you risk getting a "black line around the outside". If the water is boiling gently it's more likely you get that "sort of yolky bit in the middle".

After six minutes the chef takes the eggs out of the pot and put them in a small bowl of water, before sharing his "little trick".

He explained: "Now, eggs take them out. I always like to put them into cold water first before I start peeling them.

"Get the base, crack it and then steep it in water."

He then took each egg and proceeded to crack them at the base, blowing at the bottom, before putting it back into the cold bowl of water.

After a minute or two, Gordon takes the egg out of the water, takes the bottom part of the shell off, before blowing into it, making it super simple to then pull the skin off.

He explained: "Tap, tap, tap, pull, pull, pull. Put it in the top of your hand and blow. From there, it should literally come off super quick.

"Then dip it back in the water," he added, which should get rid of any excess shell.

After the shell was easily removed, Gordon cut into the egg and said "it should be slightly runny in the middle", and revealed a perfectly soft-boiled egg which was both "runny" and "yolky".

Gordon used the scrumptious-looking egg to top off his ramen recipe, as he wrote in the caption: "Ramen needs perfectly yolky eggs to go with it".
