Gordon Elliott spends over €1million on new horses at sales

Gordon Elliott spent over €1million as he purchased seven horses at the Tattersalls Cheltenham December Sale.

The Co Meath trainer's new recruits include recent point-to-point winner What's Up Darling, who cost £280,000.

The five-year-old won by 13 lengths at Quakerstown on the same day as Teahupoo landed the Hatton's Grace at Fairyhouse for Elliott.

Among the other purchases made by the handler at last Friday's sale were Rainbow Trail for £220,000, Boston Town for £200,000 and £165,000 buy Quantum Storm.

Rainbow Trail finished runner-up on his debut at Corbeagh House earlier this month and was purchased out of Donnchadh Doyle's Monbeg Stables.

Boston Town won a Tinahely maiden for Colin Bowe last month and was purchased for KTDA Racing, whose other horses with Elliott include Mount Ida and Braeside.

Meanwhile, Quantum Storm was bought for Noel and Valerie Moran's Bective Stud from Terence O'Brien's yard after finishing second in a Dromahane point-to-point.

Elliott also bought Zaidi for £30,000, Find A Fortune for £47,000 and Farren Glory for £60,000, all three of which he purchased with bloodstock agent Aidan O'Ryan.

In total, Elliott spent £1,002,000 (€1,164,577) on his new purchases.
