The number of measles cases in the United States has officially surpassed 4,000 this year, a staggering figure that highlights a major public health crisis. This data comes from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which reported on Friday that about 96 percent of these infections are linked to known outbreaks. It is a massive jump from the previous year, as the agency recorded a total of 2,289 measles infections for all of 2025.
Senator Bill Cassidy, who serves as the chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, is now calling for a much more aggressive approach from the Trump administration. He believes the current strategy is simply not enough to stop the spread of this preventable disease. “I have seen people die from vaccine-preventable diseases. You get vaccinated, you don’t die. You’re not vaccinated, you do die,” Cassidy said during a recent appearance.
